The rich miser Haji Bakhil (Udo Omar) keeps two dreamy servants, Labu (M. Zain) and Labi (P. Ramlee), who both long to marry his daughter Manisah (Mariani). Labu stumbles on a robbers' hidden loot and returns as the wealthy 'Haji Labu', but his proposal is refused, so he has a bomoh bewitch Manisah. Labi seeks out a holy hermit in the forest and returns with a magic gem that cures her, and the grateful Haji Bakhil lets him marry her. On the wedding night Labu comes back with a sleeping powder to carry off the bride, and the two old friends fight it out.
Nasib Si Labu Labi 1963
The sequel to Labu dan Labi. Widowed, the miser Haji Bakhil (Udo Omar) opens his purse only for Murniati, a teacher at an orphans' school, and remakes himself as a dandy to win her, while his servants Labu (M. Zain) and Labi (P. Ramlee) still compete, even in a boxing match, for his daughter Manisah. Sent to propose, the pair are chased out by Murniati's father, Haji Ibrahim, Haji Bakhil's old enemy; they pretend she has accepted and try to carry her off to the kadi, but kidnap her father by mistake. Haji Bakhil, his meanness restored, will not stand bail, and Labu and Labi go to jail. (Synopses after Ahmad Sarji, Erti Yang Sakti, 1999.)
